Motorcycle Training Program Information Sheet

Who should attend?
 Anyone wanting to attain their Nova Scotia Motorcycle License. For those who are inexperienced, or for those with some experience but require basic licensing, or for those of you who are returning to the sport after an extended absence.

Course Format:
The course is approximately 20 hours long. During that time our highly qualified instructors will train you in motorcycle safety and teach you the skills you need to ride safely. Motorcycles are provided by Safety Services Nova Scotia for the course. Each participant will have their own motorcycle to use throughout the course.

The course is designed for the new rider – no prior experience is necessary. The majority of your time is spent on a motorcycle with a small portion of the course being delivered in the classroom. Each lesson builds on the skills taught in the previous lesson starting with “getting on a motorcycle”. At the end of the course students will be given a written and practical test and upon successful completion you will receive a graduation card and your motorcycle license (if you have a current NS drivers license, with some restrictions).

he Motorcycle Training Course is an established, proven program. The course will help participants discover the thrill of riding while learning how to cope with safety challenges that riders face in today’s traffic environment. No matter why you ride, for sport or transportation, you'll need to be prepared with the skills and knowledge for safe and enjoyable riding.

Cost:

The cost is $450.00 for each person registered.

Refund Policy:
An administration fee of $85 will be charged on cancellations. No refund will be issued 48 hours prior to the course date. Individuals who register and fail to attend, fail to complete or are dismissed form the program will not be eligible for refund.

STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO SUPPLY THE FOLLOWING:
- Motorcycle Helmet (DOT approved)
- Gloves preferably leather; make sure they fit. (FINGERLESS GLOVES WILL NOT BE ALLOWED)
- Sturdy jacket and pants (leather or denim)
- Boots that cover the ankle (preferably leather) (SNEAKERS & RUBBER BOOTS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED). Boots with higher than average heels will hinder your ability to operate the foot controls. Steel-toe boots are not recommended.
- Rain gear is required as the course goes rain or shine.
- Current NS Drivers License if you wish to be licensed on successful completion of the course.
- Copy of your receipt indicating payment for the course.

 Students are encouraged to be on site 20 minutes before actual start time.

 

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

1. The tuition fee is payable in full prior to the start of training, and is non-refundable.  Attendance at all training sessions is mandatory. Extra fees will be charged for any extra training or make-up training requested by me. 

2. I confirm that I have disclosed all relevant medical information as requested by Safety Services Nova Scotia and promise to advise my instructors of any changes which could affect my training. 

3. Where I use my own vehicle, I am solely responsible for ensuring that it is in a state of good mechanical repair and safe operating condition to the satisfaction Safety Services Nova Scotia prior to the training.

4. Waiver and Limitation of Liability:

a.  I understand that there is an inherent risk of accident and personal injury in operating and in learning to operate a motorcycle and hereby acknowledge and accept the entire risk of undertaking this training. 

b.  I understand that while Safety Services Nova Scotia has instructed my instructor on how to provide a safe training course, and has agreed to use commercially reasonable efforts to provide a safe course and learning environment, the cost of the course is based on Safety Services Nova Scotia, its officers, instructors, volunteers, employees, directors  and agents (collectively the “Released Persons”) having NO LIABILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE HOWSOEVER CAUSED, INCLUDING THEIR OWN NEGLIGENCE.  

c.  I hereby release the Released Persons from all liability for any property damage, bodily injury, liability, costs, expenses and claims of every nature and kind, howsoever caused, arising from, or in consequence of, my participation in training activities conducted by any of the Released Persons or arising from or in consequence of any negligence on the part of any of the Released Persons, or any failure on their part to provide a safe training course or use commercially reasonable efforts to do so. 

d.  FOR GREATER CERTAINTY, I MAY NOT SUE  SAFETY SERVICES NOVA SCOTIA OR ANYONE ASSOCIATED WITH THEM FOR DAMAGE SUFFERED BY ME IN THE COURSE, INCLUDING DAMAGE ARISING OUT OF THEIR OWN NEGLIGENCE IN PROVIDING THIS COURSE, AND I WAIVE MY RIGHTS TO DO SO

e.  Negligence may include: failure to secure or clear the training environment, failure to remind students of instructions, failure to follow the course manual, mixing experienced and novice students, etc.

f.  Where I use my own vehicle, I also acknowledge and accept the risk of damage which might occur to it, and acknowledge that the foregoing release, waivers and indemnities apply to it as well. 

g.  The costs of this course are based on the foregoing allocation of risk. Failure to sign this form will mean that you may not participate in the training activities.
