What do I need to bring to the course?
- Helmet (Safety approved DOT)
- Gloves preferably leather; make sure they fit. (FINGERLESS GLOVES WILL NOT BE ALLOWED)
- Sturdy jacket and pants (leather or denim)
- Boots that cover the ankle (preferably leather) (SNEAKERS & RUBBER BOOTS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED). Boots with higher than average heels will hinder your ability to operate the foot controls. Steel-toe boots may hinder proper shifting.
- Rain gear is required as the course goes rain or shine.
- A copy of your receipt indicating payment for the course.
- Students are encouraged to be on site 20 minutes before actual start time.
- If you wish to attain a NS motorcycle license, you must have a current NS driver’s license prior to your course
What are some of the medical conditions that would prevent you from taking the course?
You will be required to push a motorcycle weighing approximately 300lbs. Any female who is pregnant will not be allowed training due to the higher risks involved with motorcycling.
Do I need my gear the first night of the course?
You will be on the motorcycles within the first hour of the course and you will be riding in all types of weather.
If I take the course, do I get my license right away?
Upon successful completion of a written and practical riding exercise you will be given a Learner’s Motorcycle license with some restrictions. Depending on the class of license you hold your restrictions will be enforced for 30 – 90 days following the course. The restrictions are zero blood alcohol level, no passengers, and daylight riding only. You will have no further testing after the course.
Can I take this course – even if I have never ridden before?
The course is designed for a student who has never had any experience with a motorcycle. It is also an excellent refresher for those who haven’t ridden for several years.
If I fail the final testing, what are my options?
1. You can reschedule for the testing only. There is a cost involved.
2. You can reschedule for a complete course at a reduced cost.
If I am unable to complete the course, what are my options?
You can reschedule for a complete course (availability permitting) at a reduced cost.
If I am unable to complete the course, am I eligible for a refund?
Individuals who register and fail to attend or fail to complete the program will not be eligible for refund.
Will there be any further charges to me?
Not on the course. A small fee is charged at Access NS when you have the restrictions removed and a full license is given.
Will this course lower my insurance costs?
There is no absolute guarantee but this motorcycle program is recognized by most insurance providers across Canada.
What size bikes do you use?
We have Honda CB125T’s, Suzuki GN125’s, Yamaha 250 Viragos, Kawasaki 125 Eliminators and Suzuki 250 Marauders.
Do I need a license to drive a scooter?
In Nova Scotia you must have a motorcycle license to drive any size scooter.
Can I put my name on a waiting list?
You may place your name on a waiting list. However, there is no guarantee when or if an opening may occur.
Can I change my scheduled course date?
There is a fee involved to do this and the request is subject to space available. No changes can be done 48 hours prior to your scheduled date.
Can I cancel my registration at any time with no penalty?
An administration fee of $80 will be charged on cancellations. No refund will be issued 48 hours prior to the course date.
Do you offer any courses in French?
We do not have any specific courses in French but we do have some instructors who are bilingual. Please call SSNS for further information.
Can I get a new graduation card?
A fee will be charged for a replacement card but you must contact the SSNS with the date and place you took your course.
What is the total cost of the course?
The cost is $440.00 for each person registered.
